Women Like Sex | Ep. 11: Asexuality Is A-OK
Artwork by Ted Nunes
Since we’re so often told that girls and women don’t really like sex, when a woman actually is asexual, that’s immediately accepted and respected, right? No questions asked, no pushback. Not exactly, as this week’s guest Marie shares.
The bottom line is that there is no bottom to the well of society’s sexual expectations. If anyone has ever experienced a lifelong Goldilocks “just right” sexuality impermeable to criticism – while being 1000% honest with themselves and free from others’ control – please let me know where to find and talk to them.
Meanwhile, let’s heed the advice of Marie, who was 19 at the time of recording, and do away with all the labels and tiny boxes we use to define something as vast, nuanced and personal as sexuality. So that more young people can realize, at even earlier ages, that there’s nothing wrong with them.
As Marie says, never stop questioning, challenging and wondering who you are. And with that, let’s begin.
