Women Like Sex | Ep. 8: “We Don’t Need the P”

From hookups and “swipey dating” to sex ed and male entitlement: What has and has not changed in recent decades for young women? This week’s guest, Alex Petro, gives us a glimpse.

The 21-year-old and her peers are still fighting the mythologies of “boys will be boys,” of virginity and of people-pleasing as a part of female sexuality. Which means my former student and I are able to share bad dating stories far too easily.

However, talking to Alex is also heartening, as it is whenever I hear young women dismantling persisting myths about their sexuality, that they won’t put up with anymore.

Lastly, I want to unequivocally state that I love cats and would never and have never hurt them. But I do give everyone license to use my cat metaphor from the episode, or a variation of it. I’ve found it can get its point across very efficiently.
