Women Like Sex | Ep. 5: Women Are NOT Sexually Dysfunctional
Artwork by Ted Nunes
This week’s guest is Dr. Cynthia Graham, a Distinguished Professor of Gender Studies at Indiana University. And a Senior Scientist at the Kinsey Institute, one of the world’s leading sex research centers for nearly 80 years.
Her current research includes male condom use, sexual problems, women's sexual pleasure, and sexual health among older adults. She has countless accolades and has been Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sex Research since 2009.
She was also part of the Workgroup on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders for the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Which we discuss, for its misleading past definitions of sexual problems, and how they’re slowly improving. Surprisingly, for women more so than men.
And to my great joy, she agrees with my idea that certain messaging about women is as bad as if we told men that their “proper” way to orgasm is rectally. But first, Cynthia debunks one of the worst, and maybe most enraging, pieces of modern data that’s been floating around for decades.
